2 Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Teen In Springfield: Police

Springfield police say they've arrested three people — including a minor — in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy.

Luis Reyes-Santiago, 18, of Springfield, and 20-year-old Xavier Rivera of Ware are charged with murder in the Sunday, Sept. 24, slaying, authorities said. An underage female was also there, but her name and charges were not released. 

Police were called to the 100 block of Lionel Benoit Road just before midnight to reports of a shooting. They found an unnamed 17-year-old bleeding out on the floor along with Rivera, Reyes-Santiago, and the minor nearby, Springfield authorities said. 

Responders rushed the teenager to Baystate Medical Center, where he died of his injuries late Monday night. 

Rivera and Reyes-Santiago are charged with: 

  • Murder
  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 Feet of a building
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon

Police did not say what sparked the shooting.
